Snapshots from Boston, February 17th - 20th.

I finally made it to the JFK Presidential Library.

Yes, that is a piece of the Berlin Wall; I’m so glad you asked.

Paul Revere now travels by silver sedans.

Snapshots from Brussels, February 12th.

Atomium was truly amazing!

It was -15 degrees, so I bundled up and ate delicious escargot.

Snapshots of Amsterdam, February 11th.

Yes, that is a large bobble head of George W. Bush.

Yes, I was standing on the canals.

Snapshots from Dordrecht, February 8th to 10th.

Obsessing over: How much fun I had at the reference desk last night. It was great to be back after so long. The questions were varied. Some were very challenging. It was nice to be able to lend a hand to students, an author, and faculty.

Working on: My fitness. After two weeks of eating meat and potatoes with brown gravy, it was time to visit the treadmill. I’ve also decided to run the qualifiers for the NYC 2013 marathon. Some are short, some are long but they all require me to start running again.

Thinking about: Getting my photos together from my work trip and posting them. I have some pretty decent snapshots. It would be nice to have them in one location.

Anticipating:  In 17 days Alan, Karen, and I leave for Antigua. Seven sunny days of swimming in the ocean, snorkeling, drinking rum punch, and lounging.

Listening to: Terrible phone conversations. Beyonce’s Pandora channel. Coconut Records. New bands a colleague gave me.

Eating: Belgian chocolate. In small pieces. So it lasts forever.

Currently.

Obsessing over: Tickets to see Death of a Salesman with Philip Seymour Hoffman. Can someone tell me how and/or why the ‘cheap seats’ are $97? Looks like I might be taking a long lunch and use my student ID before it expires to get the student rush rates.

Working on:  A school project about Encyclopedia Britannica and their massive fail where they refused Microsoft’s offer to be their CD-ROM enclylopedia of choice and their need to not hurt the ‘traditional way of selling’.

Thinking about: How terrible are televised news programs? It is all death, violence, household scares, weather, and movie reviews. No wonder I read the news - less sensationalism.

Anticipating:  A fantastic weekend in Boston with Alan. I am finally going to the Kennedy Library. I am so, so, so excited!

Listening to: The Belle Brigade, the brother/sister duo is pretty much amazing.

Eating:  The Gouda I brought back from Holland. It is so buttery and rich.

Wishing: Teletransportation was real. I’d love to go have dinner with a few friends back west right now. Just a nice girls night with food and wine.

This post was inspired by Danielle at Sometimes Sweet.

A brief commentary on the nurse.

From what I can tell, he is caring for three patients in the neuro critical care unit. He does so swiftly and with great care. He has humor when appropriate and concern when necessary. He answers my endless and sometimes repetitive questions thoroughly and without haste.

I understand this is his job. I understand he works with families just like mine all the time.

What I’m saying is, I appreciate it. Thank you, Jason.

This week takes me from Miami to New York to Indianapolis; from 75 and sunny to 15 and snowy.

Nice little Saturday

Retrieved a present from the post office.
Good workout at the gym.
A walk through the city in 60 degree weather.
Found a few cute pieces for my trip to Miami next weekend.
Travel snafus worked themselves out.
Football on the sofa with the kitties and Alan.

the birthday post

Twenty nine.

Around my twenty seventh birthday, major changes started happening. I vowed on that birthday that I was going to take control of my life and do what needed to be done. Two years later, I can happily say I was true to myself. I will admit these two years have been amazing. As I begin my thirtieth year I don’t have any regrets or fears about the big three-oh. A list of birthday resolutions for this year:

  • buy more items made in America
  • travel at every opportunity
  • remember that quality trumps quantity
  • be more understanding (friends don’t always call, people hurry for different reasons, sometimes life isn’t fair)
  • be kind (to myself, to my loved ones, to strangers)
This sums up my Thanksgiving break very, very well.

This is today.
Mind you, today is a holiday and all I am working on is homework.
